Perspective separates leaders and followers more than any other characteristic. Leaders see before followers do; they see beyond what followers do; and they see bigger than followers do.

A leader who loves the status quo soon becomes a follower.

Vision and mission are the head and the heart of people. But values are their soul.

Theodore Hesburgh said, "The very essence of leadership is that you have a vision. It's got to be a vision you can articulate clearly and forcefully on every occasion. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet." An "uncertain trumpet" is usually the result of an individual who either lacks a vision or is trying to lead with someone else's dream. There is a vast difference between a person with a vision and a visionary person.

If you really want to be an uncommon leader, you're going to have to find a way to get much of your vision seen, implemented, and added to by others.

Good leaders don't take anything for granted. They keep working and keep leading. They understand that leadership must be earned and established. They remain dissatisfied in a way, because dissatisfaction is a good one-word definition for motivation. Good leaders strive to keep the people and organization moving forward toward its vision. They recognize that organizations can sometimes be filled with appointments, but teams can be built only by good leadership.

Leadership is more than management. Leadership is: People more than projects. Movement more than maintenance. Art more than science. Intuition more than formula. Vision more than procedure. Risk more than caution. Action more than reaction. Relationships more than rules. Who you are more than what you do If you want to influence others, then you must learn to lead.

Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.

Have you ever had to communicate someone else's vision? It's very difficult to do, isn't it?

Transformational leaders: See things others do not see. Believe things others do not believe. Say things others do not say. Feel things others do not feel. Do things others do not do. Receive things others do not receive.

People who lack vision almost always lack passion. Incompetent leaders are ineffective and they often stay that way.
