How we treat, talk about, respond to, and care for one another is the identifying mark of a genuine Jesus follower. Not what we believe.

So, leveraging Jesus' teaching on love, Paul gives us the grown-up version of what love really is. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Cor 13:4 — 8)

Participants in the new covenant are not required to obey most of the commandments found in the first half of their Bibles. Participants in the new covenant are expected to obey the single command Jesus issued as part of his new covenant. Namely: As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

Political and ideological alignment is not a prerequisite for carrying one another's burdens. I can love you the way Jesus loved me regardless of who you voted for.

The aim of God in history is the creation of an all-inclusive community of loving persons with God himself at the very heart of this community as its prime Sustainer and most glorious Inhabitant.

Jesus did not always like the Apostles' way of acting, but by adapting himself to their temperament, praying for them to his father, giving them a holy example of conduct, he loved them, and that love changed them.

The purpose of life is to love.

disciples are not copiers of Christ but continuing incarnations of Jesus' life and love.

The more we are the Presence of Christ for others, the more present we are for Christ to speak to us.

Oh, 'tis love, 'tis love, that makes the world go round!

Our best efforts at changing society will fall short unless the church can teach the world how to love.
