We believe the truth, however, is that he was an 18th century Anglican. He was an orthodox, Trinity-affirming believer in Jesus Christ, who also affirmed the historic Christian Gospel of a Savior who died for sinners and was raised to life. But then again, we also believe it would not be accurate to call him an "evangelical" (by modern standards of the word).

If this Jesus is God's answer, what is the question? Paul eventually came to the conclusion that God was answering a question that gets at the core of not simply the Jewish drama, but the human drama, a question that no one was yet asking in quite the same way.

Christ is the ultimate example of how God enters the messiness of history to save his people.

We sinned for no reason but an incomprehensible lack of love, and He saved us for no reason but an incomprehensible excess of love.

If your life is Christ, then your death will be only more of Christ, forever. If your life is only Christlessness, then your death will be only more Christlessness, forever. That's not fundamentalism, that's the law of non-contradiction.

So the LORD sent venomous snakes among the people, and many of the Israelites were bitten and died.

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and mount it on a pole. When anyone who is bitten looks at it, he will live.”

So Moses made a bronze snake and mounted it on a pole. If anyone who was bitten looked at the bronze snake, he would live.

I will proclaim the decree spoken to Me by the LORD: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.

that he should live on forever and not see decay.

Because you are precious and honored in My sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you and nations in place of your life.

Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.
