Prayer makes no sense apart from waiting.

Difficult and painful as it is, we must walk on in the days ahead with an audacious faith in the future.

If what we need isn't available to us, we have to rely on God's promises. If we don't rely on God, we are testing him.

When we try to dictate to God the time, place, and manner for him to act, we are testing him. At the same time, we're trying to see if he is really there. When we do this we are putting limits on God and trying to make him do what we want. It's nothing less than trying to deprive God of his divinity. But we must realize that God is free—not subject to any limitations. He must dictate to us the place, manner, and time that he will act.

If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you to go on in spite of all. And so today I still have a dream.

The Christian faith makes it possible for us nobly to accept that which cannot be changed, and to meet disappointments and sorrow with an inner poise, and to absorb the most intense pain without abandoning our sense of hope.

If you are not too long, I will wait here for you all my life.

Perhaps it takes a purer faith to praise God for unrealized blessings than for those we once enjoyed or those we enjoy now.

He hoped she was gazing into the future that included him. A shiver rushed down his spine, and he wasn't sure if it was longing or fear. Truth be told, it was a little of both.
