When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2

You see, a person full of the Holy Spirit cannot be full of self. Pride never accompanies power in the fully yielded life.

Never in all of Scripture does Christ resist the repentant sinner. He resisted the proud and the self-righteous religious, but never the humble and repentant.

We must be careful to avoid spiritual elitism. Everything we are and anything we possess as believers in Christ is a gift of grace. Pure hearts before God must be cleansed from any hint of spiritual pride.

Father, Your Word clearly states that You will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. You will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. (Isa. 13:11)

You who occupy the mountain summit, though you elevate your nest like the eagle, even from there I will bring you down. Jeremiah 49:16

Let's not fool ourselves into thinking that pride is a problem only for the lost. The most effective means the enemy has to keep believers from being full of the Spirit is to keep us full of ourselves. No wonder the Bible states and restates that God hates pride. It is the enemy of genuine ministry. It is the end of many homes.

We may be afraid to ask God to keep us humble. Why are we not far more frightened of what pride can do?

Supremacy among mortals is always oppositional to God, but among people who carry the name of Christ, it is blasphemous.

I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and who trembles at My word. Isaiah 66:2

Pride is the archenemy of ministry.

All the reasons which require the subjection of a believer to the brethren of a particular church, require his subjection to all his brethren in the Lord.
