January 8 has been a lucky day for me. I have started all my books on that day, and all of them have been well received by the readers. I write eight to ten hours a day until I have a first draft, then I can relax a little. I am very disciplined. I write in silence and solitude. I light a candle to call inspiration and the muses, and I surround myself with pictures of the people I love, dead and alive.

Writing, when all is said and done, is an attempt to understand one's own circumstance and to clarify the confusion of existence, including insecurities that do not torment normal people, only chronic nonconformists, many of whom end up as writers after having failed in other undertakings.

As good almost kill a man as kill a good book: who kills a man kills a reasonable creature, God's image; but he who destroys a good book kills reason itself, kills the image of God, as it were, in the eye.

I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen. Not only because I see it, but because I see everything by it.

I like to take every day just searching my own heart, making sure that I'm on course, and I'm doing what God wants me to do. I'm real good with not looking to the critics and looking straight ahead.

You need to be moving if you want God to show you which way to go.

God's promises don't depend on your feelings. They depend on his Word. Stop relying on yourself and let God use you how he wants.

You've always spent your life looking forward, the destination in mind. But faith is stepping forward without knowing the destination.

the thing about light is that it doesn't come from us. It's God in us that provides the light to the world. So if you want to be light to her, you'd better make sure that light is shining in you first.

No books ever go into my laboratory. The thing I am to do and the way are revealed to me the moment I am inspired to create something new. Without God to draw aside the curtain, I would be helpless. Only alone can I draw close enough to God to discover His secrets.
