The simple power of prayer can save us all kinds of time and trouble if we will ask God to give us wisdom and discernment in our relationships.

We disparage reason. But all the time it's what we're most concerned with. There's will as motor and there's will as brakes. Reason is, I suppose, the steering gear.

Give me the judgment of balanced minds in preference to laws every time. Codes and manuals create patterned behavior. All patterned behavior tends to go unquestioned, gathering destructive momentum.

Hard knocks have a place and value, but hard thinking goes farther in less time.

Prudence is the virtue by which we discern what is proper to do under various circumstances in time and place.

If we spend enough time with God, He'll either make us strong enough that problems won't bother us, or He'll show us what to do about them.

Don't be too hard on me. Everyone has to sacrifice at the altar of stupidity from time to time.

When we pray for God to illumine our path, we are saying, 'Dear God, please show me the way. What thoughts do I need to think, to be able to navigate my life at this point? What perceptions do I need; what insights will guide me? Who do I need to forgive? What parts of my personality do I need to look at; what changes do I need to make? Please come upon me and heal my life. Amen.

Whatever problems I face today, I will look for answers inside myself. I will search my heart for any lack of love . . . lack of forgiveness . . . lack of acceptance of my brother or myself. I will be lifted then to an illumined place, where wisdom and truth shall guide me. There I will find the answers that I seek.

Whether we write lyrics or craft legislation, sell homes or teach classes, design spaces or open franchises, prayer is a critical part of the creative process. Don't just brainstorm; praystorm.

I must have a prodigious amount of mind; it takes me as much as a week, sometimes, to make it up!

The cultivation of the intellect is man's highest good and purest happiness
