It takes an enormous amount of internal security to begin with the spirit of adventure, the spirit of discovery, the spirit of creativity. The primary human endowments are 1) self-awareness or self-knowledge; 2) imagination and conscience; and 3) volition or willpower. The secondary endowments are 4) an abundance mentality; 5) courage and consideration; and 6) creativity. The seventh endowment is self-renewal. All are unique human endowments; animals don't possess any of them. But they are all on a continuum of low to high levels.

Whatever is at the center of our life will be the source of our security, guidance, wisdom, and power.

Principles are the territory. Values are maps. When we value correct principles, we have truth—a knowledge of things as they are.

Our behavior is a function of our decisions, not our conditions. We can subordinate feelings to values. We have the initiative and the responsibility to make things happen.
