If I had not felt certain that every additional trial was ordered by infinite love and mercy, I could not have survived my accumulated suffering.

Suffering is a part of every life. Rain falls upon every life. All people encounter tragedy. Everybody struggles through hardship—not just Christians. But for the believer, for the child of God, whatever comes into our life first comes through the grid of God's plan and purpose for our lives. There are no accidents in the life of the believer.

Don't struggle about the struggle. In other words, life's full of ups and downs. So if you're struggling, don't worry, everyone else has or will at some point.

Things are never so bad they can't be made worse.

The British nation is unique in this respect. They are the only people who like to be told how bad things are, who like to be told the worst.

I wish thy lot, now bad, still worse, my friend, for when at worst, they say, things always mend.

No man is more unhappy than he who never faces adversity. For he is not permitted to prove himself.

But Jesus answered me with these words and said: Sin is necessary, but all will be well, and all will be well, and every kind of thing will be well.

There can be no greater spiritual accomplishment than to come through brutal trials and then look back and see that mean times did not render us mean spirits.
