Everything that is done in this world is done by hope.

Love is the seed of all hope. It is the enticement to trust, to risk, to try, to go on.

A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave.

The West is different than where we came from. It's a land that demands strength of people. A land that tests courage. With the muscles in our backs and the brains in our heads, we can do whatever we want out here, and I intend to accept that challenge and grow strong enough to belong in this wild and rich land.

Faith and optimism are cousins.

Without courage we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can't be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.

We really feel happier when things look bleak. Hope is endurance. Hope is holding on and going on and trusting in the Lord.

Fear is a very explosive emotion, but it has a short life span. It's the sprint. The marathon is hope.

Life is a gamble. You can get hurt, but people die in plane crashes, lose their arms and legs in car accidents people die every day. Same with fighters: some die, some get hurt, some go on. You just don't let yourself believe it will happen to you.

Practice hope. As hopefulness becomes a habit, you can achieve a permanently happy spirit.

We discussed the function of defense mechanisms and found that we were humbled by the power of that portion of our psyche, we began to understand that if it weren't for rationalization, sublimation, denial—all the little tricks we let ourselves perform—if instead we simply saw the world as it was, with nothing to protect us, honestly and courageously, it would break our hearts.

If you are going through a time of discouragement, there is a time of great personal growth ahead.
