Often, what I expect tomorrow to bring will start to play out in my attitude. I think, in some weird way, that if I expect hurt and heartbreak and hardships, this protects me from getting caught off guard. But in reality, when I do this, my negativity pulls me away from trusting God, loving people, and enjoying what today offers. And it sometimes even becomes self-fulfilled prophecies as I trade the good of today for living in fear of tomorrow.

I shift my focus from trying to fix the other person and the situation to allowing God to reveal some tender truths to me.

A woman who is striving invites others to strive. The message—sometimes implicit in her actions, sometimes explicit through her words—is, "Get your act together. Life is uncertain. There is no time for your heart here. Shape up. Get busy. That's what is important." She does not say, "All is well. All shall be well." Her fear doesn't allow it. She is withholding the very things her world needs.

When I pull into the driveway at the end of the day. I don't have to leap from the car; I can take a moment. I turn the engine off, sometimes lay my head down on the steering wheel, and just breathe. I try to let go of the day.

Now every daughter of Eve want to control her surrounding, her relationships, her God. No longer is she vulnerable; now she will be grasping. No longer does she want simply to share in the adventure; she wants to control it.

And as I do, even as I say it out loud—I give everyone and everything to you—my soul cooperates a good bit. I'm settling down.

Pressure nearly always guarantees you will have a hard time discerning what God is saying, if you hear anything at all.

I am surrendering it, turning it over to Jesus, relinquishing its every right.

I mean, they are just as susceptible to pressure and in many ways more susceptible to pressure because they are desperately anxious, this is their tremendous chance to break through the rather narrow lives they may lead.

Turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream.

When I was young, I was just about hard work. But as I got older, I did experience anxiety, doubt, judgment, and it's so easy to lose yourself for a second.

I define anxiety as experiencing failure in advance.
