How many Christians there are who cannot pray, and who seek by effort, resolve, joining prayer circles, etc., to cultivate in themselves the ''holy art of intercession,'' and all to no purpose. All other ways of mortification are vain, all helps leave us helpless, it must be done by the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit makes us aware of our lack of holiness to stimulate us to deeper yearning and striving for holiness. But Satan will attempt to use the Holy Spirit's work to discourage us.

They who overcome their desires once can overcome them always.

You can live with victory over the desires of your flesh. Habits, attitudes, desires, worries, and dissipation must yield as you exercise authority over your mind, emotions, and will.

As sure, therefore, as there is any wisdom in praying for the Spirit of God, so sure is it, that we are to make that Spirit the rule of all our actions;

James 1:14, 15: "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Variety, multiplicity are the two most powerful vehicles of lust.

One of the reasons lust is bad (not the only reason) is that it makes you stupid. Like any addiction, it blinds your vision to everything else and focuses it on the one thing that is the object of your addiction.

when the soul no longer conforms to the will of God, the body no longer conforms to the will of the soul.

Temptation is attractive; otherwise it wouldn't be tempting. And it's dangerous because it's attractive.

Unless there is within us that which is above us, we will soon yield to that which is around us.
