How true it is that without the guidance of the Holy Spirit intellect not only is undependable but also extremely dangerous, because it often confuses the issue of right and wrong.

To be penitent, to feel sorry for sin, to shed tears, to even make decisions does not bring in salvation. Confession, decision, and many other religious acts can never be and are not to be construed as new birth. Rational judgment, intelligent understanding, mental acceptance, or the pursuit of the good, the beautiful, and the true are merely soulical activities if the spirit is not reached and stirred.

As William Penn put it: "Those people who are not governed by God will be ruled by tyrants." Remember... that those tyrants are often self-imposed roadblocks of your lower self at work.

Jesus said, "I am the vine; you are the branches." All you gotta do is let the life that flows through the vine, flow into the branch—you. You don't have to do anything. You've just got to get out of the way and stop doing all the things that keep God from doing what He wants to do in your life. What Paul means by "walk by the Spirit" is essentially "live in dependence on God's Spirit.

As a follower of Jesus through faith in Him, the Holy Spirit is your only hope of ever consistently acting like a man. He is the courage to make right choices, the guide toward truth and away from error, the source of our comfort, and the provider of our strength. His primary tool is the Word of God.

Without a complete view of sin, people can burn out in their pursuit of pleasure.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

It's always easier to avoid temptation than to resist it.

If people take any notice of what we say, we say we've been through the drug scene, man, and there's nothing like being straight.

Where the banana grows man is sensual and cruel.

If you have a great many desires, you will gradually eliminate them one by one, until you allow certain desires to dominate and the others to die away.

The most dangerous thing you can do is to take any one impulse of your own nature and set it up as the thing you ought to follow at all costs.
