I will therefore give myself as a Christ to my neighbor, just as Christ offered himself to me; I will do nothing in this life except what I see is necessary, profitable, and salutary to my neighbor, since through faith I have an abundance of all good things in Christ.

We would prefer to lob grenades of truth into people's lives rather than lay down our lives for them. But this is exactly what Christ did for us. Can we expect to be called to do anything less?

Jesus declared that we should have one distinguishing mark: not political correctness or moral superiority, but love.

Where ever the spirit of Christ is known, there is much of good will, of mutual respect, of love and appreciation and kindness.

Our wives don't have to "deserve" it. A Christian husband doesn't love his wife only when she is lovable. He loves her whenever Christ deserves to be reverenced, which, of course, is always.

Lord Jesus, make us capable of loving as you love.

I believe in unconditional love and equality. Jesus Christ exemplified these qualities.

Those in the circle of Christ had no doubt of his love; those in our circles should have no doubt about ours.

The goal of our sanctification is that we place Christ on display in the way we love others.

The central mark of a maturing Christian, and of a maturing congregation, is that they increasingly love others as Christ loves them.

The challenge, then, is not first and foremost to love like Christ. The challenge is to live in Christ's love, for only then can we love as Christ loved. And as with everything else about our lives, this can only be done in each present moment.

Human love is directed to the other person for his own sake, spiritual love loves him for Christ's sake.
