Prayer is how we make sense of our lives in the light of eternity.

When I first began spending daily time in prayer, I often grew frustrated at how I could forget about God's presence by lunchtime, even after praying for an hour in the morning. Shorter but more frequent times of prayer may actually help us to live with an increasing awareness of God's presence in our lives. How difficult would it be for us to set aside five minutes in the morning, five minutes at noon, and five minutes before or after dinnertime to meet God in prayer?

God will speak to us through creation if we'll only listen. If you feel like your time in front of books or listening to sermons has become stagnant, grab a coat, pick up a walking stick, and step outside into a school that never closes.

I would not consider any spirituality worthwhile that wants to walk in sweetness and ease and run from the imitation of Christ.

As you consider God's mission for your life, where do you feel inadequate? Talk to God about this. Then listen for His answer—how has He provided what you need?

Make it your study, before taking up any task to look to GOD, be it only for a moment, as also when you are engaged thereon, and lastly when you have performed the same.

Methinks that in looking at things spiritual, we are too much like oysters observing the sun through the water, and thinking that thick water the thinnest of air.

Prayer draws us near to our own souls.

Retire at various times into the solitude of your own heart, even while outwardly engaged in discussions or transactions with others, and talk to God.

Religious life is an encounter with the living God. Sometimes that encounter is preceded by a kind of soul-searching agony that tries desperately not to hear, runs in the opposite direction, and frantically tries to reason itself out of answering the invitation.

Whatever God wants to do through you, He will do in you first. You've got to be what you want to see.

I believe that when we sing, we worship twice. We express our thoughts into words, and our words into song.
