For one thing, I don't think that anybody in any war thinks of themselves as a hero.

In our human imagination, we so often perceive our Heroes to be something larger than life. We exalt them in ways that do them a disservice....we convince ourselves that they are or were something essentially different than the rest of us.

Heroes rarely look the way we draw them in our minds: attractive, imposing figures with rippling muscles and strong chins. More times than not they are humble beings, small and flawed. It is only their spirits that are beautiful and strong.

They even create crises. They don't look for ways to be more efficient because they actually like working overtime. They enjoy feeling like heroes.
