The slashers have finished; it was the turn of the thinkers. The century that Waterloo was intended to arrest has pursued its march. That sinister victory was vanquished by liberty.

My civil rights will not be trampled, and I say this not for me but for my children, and all those who yearn to breathe free. Those who make your Apple products at Foxxcon, those who languish in prisons in Cuba, North Korea and Venezuela. Those homosexuals who are stoned to death in the streets of Egypt or Iran, while our so-called civil rights leaders hold coffee klatches with third graders in the White House.

I can go on the road - because I can come home. I come home - because I'm free to leave. Each way of being is more valued in the presence of the other.

Perhaps the most revolutionary act for a woman will be a self-willed journey—and to be welcomed when she comes home.
