People are very fond of giving away what they need most themselves. It is what I call the depth of generosity.

Those who have much are often greedy; those who have little often share.

It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.

When I give, I give myself

The whole question is; How precious is he to us now? If we do not think much of him, then of course to give him anything at all, however small will seem to us a wicked waste. But when he is really precious to our souls nothing will be too good, nothing too costly for him; everything we have, our dearest, our most priceless treasure, we shall pour out upon him, and we shall not count it a shame to have done so.

to offer one-tenth to God; but under the new covenant, ten-tenths are required.

The only gift is a portion of thyself.

Only when we give joyfully, without hesitation or thought of gain, can we truly know what love means.

As much as I loved the model of St. Francis, I realized that I couldn't afford to be poor, because unlike St. Francis, I'm not celibate. I was enlightened that God's call to me was not poverty but generosity and simplicity. And I had to go back to the lesson I learned from my parents: that is, simplicity.

Fear will make you stingy.

Do you beg to give away your resources? Are you working passionately to find ways to bless others? This is a sign of true generosity.

I felt that one of the things God impressed on me was that I needed to start a nonprofit corporation, so that any money that came my way, whether it was an honorarium, a book sale or a gift, would go into a nonprofit ministry.
