The cure for the sin of envy and jealousy is to find our contentment in God

But the question to precede all others, which finally determines the course of our lives is What do I really want? Was it to love what God commands, in the words of the collect, and to desire what He promises? Did I want what I wanted, or did I want what He wanted, no matter what it might cost?

The willingness to be and to have just what God wants us to be and have, nothing more, nothing less, and nothing else, would set our hearts at rest, and we would discover the simpler life, the greater peace.

My heart was saying, Lord, take away this longing, or give me that for which I long. The Lord was answering, I must teach you to long for something better.

There is a whole world of difference between those who look only for their own happiness in this world and those who know their true happiness lies in the will of God.

The love of God is not a sentiment. It is a willed and inexorable love that will command nothing less than the very best for us. The love of God wills our joy. I think of the love of God as being synonymous with the will of God.

If the yearning went away, what would we have to offer up to the Lord? Aren't they given to us to offer? It is the control of passion, not it's eradication, that is needed.

I must teach you to long for something better...For my uncontrollable longings for this man, Lord --- Your strength.

Strange—or is it?—that childish hopes should be answered in the will of God for this now?
