What kind of vision are you casting for the people around you? Dad, what kind of vision are you casting for your children? Mom, what kind of vision are you casting for your husband? Grandparent, what about those grandkids? Leader, what kind of personal visions are you casting for the people who have invested their time and talents in your vision?

Preachers' kids who gravitate toward ministry are commodities. I hire all I can. We see church differently than everybody else.

Leadership is not always about getting things done "right." Leadership is about getting things done through other people…When a leader can't find someone to hand things off to, it is time for him to look in the mirror. We must never forget that the people who follow us are exactly where we have led them.

This goes right to the heart of leadership. Leaders instill courage in the hearts of those who follow. This rarely happens through words alone. It generally requires action. It goes back to what we said earlier: Somebody has to go first. By going first, the leader furnishes confidence to those who follow. In this way, leaders give permission.

I don't know about you, but there have been plenty of times when I have driven home from a hospital visit wondering why they let me be the pastor.

Outsiders aren't about to take our faith seriously as long as they wonder if we do.

I have to make sure that I don't silence myself about the things that I believe in, because sometimes the fear creeps in of 'What if fewer people watch the show or fewer people hire me because I express my politics?' For me, the commitment is to never be quiet just because I'm in the public eye.

My father spent all those years building his brand. I happen to be his namesake, and I also happen to be the president of the largest Christian university. I think I have a responsibility to be a good citizen. The least I can do is to lend my name and whatever influence I have to make a difference politically.

As we all know, mental health matters, while we still have a long way to go, we're starting to see the wheels turning for real and meaningful change. As a parent of young boys, the fact these conversations will be happening at home, in their friendship groups and in the classroom is so important.

I have never had demands on me as acute as when I was a parish priest.

Priests focus on the spiritual. As a lay person I could show people how to be good Catholics in the world.

Holiness of life is not the privilege of a chosen few - it is the obligation, the call, and the will of God for every Christian.
