Yes, salvation is a gift that cannot be bought or earned. However, you cannot retain it if you do not give your entire life in exchange for it! Even a gift must be protected from being lost or stolen.

Grace is not merely a God-given cover-up of our sin. It empowers us to live like Jesus, to rule in this life by manifesting heaven's authority and power to change our world of influence.

God's answer for our shortcomings is the gift of salvation through His gift of grace, a gift that cannot be earned (Rom. 4:4). Many in the church understand this.
