God is not glorified if the foundation of our gratitude for the gospel is the worth of its gifts and not the value of the Giver. If gratitude for the gospel is not rooted in the glory of God beneath the gift of God, it is disguised idolatry. May God grant us a heart to see in the gospel the light of the glory of God in the face of Christ. May he grant us to delight in him for who he is, so that all our gratitude for his gifts will be the echo of our joy in the excellency of the Giver!

God's passion to be glorified and our passion to be satisfied are one experience in the Christ-exalting act of worship—singing in the sanctuary and suffering in the streets.

So the goal of spiritual leadership is to muster people to join God in living for God's glory.

God did not create the world to keep his glory invisible, and he did not re-create Christians to keep our passion for his glory invisible

God created me-and you-to live with a single, all-embracing, all-transforming passion, namely, a passion to glorify God by enjoying and displaying his supreme excellence in all the spheres of life.

The highest of missionary motives is neither obedience to the Great Commission (important as that is), nor love for sinners who are alienated and perishing (strong as that incentive is, especially when we contemplate the wrath of God . . .), but rather zeal—burning and passionate zeal—for the glory of Jesus Christ. . . . Only one imperialism is Christian . . . and that is concern for His Imperial Majesty Jesus Christ, and for the glory of his empire.2

If we are not captured by his personality and character, then all our declarations of thanksgiving are like the gratitude of a wife to a husband for the money she gets from him to use in her affair with another man.

Keep Christ as the blazing center, and you will be satisfied; the world will be served; and God will be glorified.

If we aim in what we do to display God's glory, we worship.

The apostle Paul calls the church to "adorn the doctrine of God" with the fidelity of our lives (Titus 2:10).

All sin comes from not putting supreme value on the glory of God—this is the very essence of sin.

May our light shine in this world so that people see you in our sacrificial deeds of love and our compromising words of truth and give glory to your hallowed name, Father
