New levels bring new devils, more favours means more haters

Prayeressness is the first sign of prideful independence. We begin to trim back our secret time with God when we're feeling great about ourselves, energetic and optimistic about our future, and confident about the path we're taking. It's the first sign that we're getting full of ourselves.

If you are milking cows and feel that you know all that there is to be known about it, you have simply reached the point where you are useless and unfitted for the work.

Moral evil is the immorality and pain and suffering and tragedy that come because we choose to be selfish, arrogant, uncaring, hateful and abusive.

Humility is the foundation of all the other virtues: hence, in the soul in which this virtue does not exist there cannot be any other virtue except in mere appearance.

Will is to grace as the horse is to the rider.

The sufficiency of my merit is to know that my merit is not sufficient.

Thus the true cause of the blessedness of the good angels is found to be this, that they cleave to Him who supremely is. And if we ask the cause of the misery of the bad, it occurs to us, and not unreasonably, that they are miserable because they have forsaken Him who supremely is, and have turned to themselves who have no such essence. And this vice, what else is it called than pride? For "pride is the beginning of sin."

Grace is the mastery of truth, the teacher of discipline, the light of the heart, the comforter of affliction, the banisher of sorrow, the nurse of devotion.

If thou art beautiful, and youth and thought endue thee with all truth-be strong;--be worthy of the grace of God.

Sadly, the truth is, there aren't many people who can be put in high positions who won't start thinking highly of themselves.

Truth without humility would be an arrogant caricature.
