Compassion gives us a common ground to stand on regardless of your faith background. It gives us a chance to stand shoulder-to-shoulder rather than go fist-to-fist with somebody.

True compassion does not come from wanting to help out those less fortunate than ourselves but from realizing our kinship with all beings.

God does not want us to be independent (standing alone) or code-pendent (unable to stand without someone's help); He wants us to be interdependent, meaning we need one another standing shoulder to shoulder to engage the adversary.

Love suffers far more for the pains of the beloved than for its own pains.

Suffering together builds togetherness, and if togetherness is more important for us and for our joy than freedom from suffering is, then God is good to allow this suffering.

The family that fights together stays together.

We need encouragement, not sermonizing, and we need clear-eyed acknowledgement of the situation, not a sanctified gloss that pushes us toward saying, 'I see I must not admit my pain because, after all, I'm a Christian. I'll just have to cover it up.

Our feelings of sympathy do not embrace all of humanity in equal measure. Some human beings matter to us. We care intensely about their well-being. Others do not matter very much, and still others do not matter at all. This is a hard saying, and may be difficult to accept but it is obviously and undeniably true.

If I have team-mates who can win individual accolades, then I will do everything to help them.
