Discovering vocation does not mean scrambling toward some prize just beyond my reach but accepting the treasure of true self I already possess. Vocation does not come from a voice "out there" calling me to be something I am not. It comes from a voice "in here" calling me to be the person I was born to be, to fulfill the original selfhood given me at birth by God.

Finally, I am coming to the conclusion that my highest ambition is to be what I already am.

IT is not we who choose to awaken ourselves, but God Who chooses to awaken us.

A prophet's task is to reveal the fault lines hidden beneath the comfortable surface of the worlds we invent for ourselves, the national myths as well as the little lies and delusions of control and security that get us through the day. And Jeremiah does this better than anyone.

This is what we see in our own modern secular culture where millions of babies are aborted (murdered through child sacrifice) every year through state-funded organizations like Planned Parenthood! The population of the USA has lost over 55 million people to abortion since the Supreme Court permitted the murder of babies in 1973 (and counting).

Can any man or woman choose duties? No more that they can choose their birthplace, or their father or mother.
