Nothing belongs to us, not even ourselves. But the exchange rate is unbelievable. All of our sin is transferred to Christ's account, and all of His righteousness is transferred to our account. God cancels our debt, writes us into His will, and calls it even!

God is a holy God. He will judge the wicked. All people on the face of the earth have broken the laws of God. It is pretty easy to see that from up here. A good person is such a relative term. People might think they are good down there, but there are only two categories on the other side: lost and saved. That's it. He made it pretty simple. They have sinned, and God provided a Savior. Now it is their choice to decide what to do with Him.

Many people assume that being a Christian means you follow all the rules and have your life together. They assume that "Christian" equals "good person"—when the opposite is true. The gospel is not about what we can do for God (good advice), but what God has done for us (good news). Jesus lived a perfect life precisely because we can't.

When our eyes fall from God to humanity, social ills replace sin, horizontal problems replace the fundamental vertical problem between us and God, winning elections eclipses winning souls.

As he said, "we should have a double eye: one eye to see that which is amiss in us, our own imperfections, thereby to carry ourselves in a perpetual humility; but another eye of faith, to see what we have in Christ, our perfection in him.

Repentance keeps sin from condemning us because Jesus died and scorned the shame.

We need to avoid the ditch on the left, where we don't call sin a sin, as well as the ditch on the right, where we are angry culture warriors battling unbelievers instead of evangelizing them.

Heaven goes by favour. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in.
