Be yourself; no base imitator of another, but your best self. There is something which you can do better than another. Listen to the inward voice and bravely obey that. Do the things at which you are great, not what you were never made for.

You are constantly invited to be what you are.

Insist on yourself; never imitate. Your own gift you can offer with the cumulative force of a whole life's cultivation, but of the adopted talent of another, you have only an extemporaneous, half possession.

The imitator dooms himself to hopeless mediocrity. The inventor did it, because it was natural to him, and so in him it has a charm. In the imitator, something else is natural, and he bereaves himself of his own beauty, to come short of another man's.

Insist upon yourself. Be original.

Beauty is the mark God sets upon virtue.

Doing well is a result of doing good.

All that we call sacred history attests that the birth of a poet is the principal event in chronology.

Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.

Accept the place the divine providence has found for you.
