The world I once knew as a boy has changed dramatically . . . I don't even recognize the world we live in today.

We are like a people under [a] sentence of death, waiting for the date to be set. We sense that something is about to happen. We know that things cannot go on as they are. History has reached an impasse. We are now on a collision course. Something is about to give.

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose . . . a time to gain, and a time to lose" (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 6 NKJV). In times of loss there are lessons to be gained. Let's not miss the purposes of God even in times of sorrow and disappointment, for He is always with us on our journey.

We are accountable to [God] for the way we use our time.

Time and tide and the ravages of sin take their toll on the most noble achievements of man.

How can men boast that they control their own destiny when they cannot solve the problems of war, racism, poverty, sickness, or suffering?

A senator once confided to me that the greatest need in Washington was the elimination of the cocktail party. He said: "It consumes so much of our time that we don't have time for matters of state".

Many people plan financially for retirement—but not spiritually and emotionally.

God wants us to work (whether at home or on the job, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to retire. The Levites (who assisted in Israel's worship) were required to retire at fifty.

The winds that sometimes take something we love, are the same that bring us something we learn to love. Therefore we should not cry about something that was taken from us, but, yes, love what we have been given. Because what is really ours is never gone forever.

My experience with them, as well as with other events in my life, convince me that the thing to do, when one feels sure that he has said or done the right thing, and is condemned, is to stand still and keep quiet. If he is right, time will show it.

It takes courage to let go—to let go of your way, to let go of being the answer. We are not the answer, my friend; God is. If we live like this, it will mean fruitful labor. Without fruit, what would be the point of living anyway? But the seed has to be buried deep in the ground before the fruit has a chance to take hold. Before the harvest is ready, the fields look bare. All the life is hidden, ready to be revealed, ready to be released—in His time.
