One day I was in the movie world with its glamour and then when I looked at it realistically and realised my shelf life was over, I was out of it all, setting up office somewhere.

That we must all die, we always knew; I wish I had remembered it sooner.

The longer I live, the more I am enabled to realize that I have but one life to live on Earth, and that this one life is but a brief life, for sowing, in comparison with eternity, for reaping.

Life is a checkerboard, and the player opposite you is TIME. If you hesitate before moving, or neglect to move promptly, your men will be wiped off the board by TIME. You are playing against a partner who will not tolerate INDECISION!

The habit of speaking apologetically of one's self as "being old" merely because one has reached the age of forty, or fifty, instead of reversing the rule and expressing gratitude for having reached the age of wisdom and understanding.

Don't wait! The time will never be just right.

Yet, those who are truly honest and humble enough to admit the truth come to the end of their earthly lives acknowledging that they have barely scratched the surface.

Remember that this week. You have never lived the seven days in front of you, and you will never live 'em again. Life is like a coin. Spend it any way you want to, but you can spend it only once. God would like you to learn from your experience in the wilderness. He wants to change your appetite, change your habits, change your style and, in the process, change your entire life.

Old age teaches you in a very unkind way that things won't necessarily get better. Not in this life. In fact, you can pretty much count on things degenerating. Being content is not a lack of ambition. It's being able to rest and relax and know that your worth doesn't come from what others think of you or even what you think of you.

Mortality is very brief but immeasurably important.

Suspended between the nastiness of life and the meanness of the dead, she couldn't get interested in leaving life or living it.
