We cannot sit still and see the dear Burmans, flesh and blood like ourselves and, like ourselves, possessed of immortal souls that will shine forever in heaven or burn forever in hell — we cannot see them go down to perdition without doing our very utmost to save them. And thanks be to God, our labors are not in vain.

For years we have heard the phrase "every member a missionary." That is not a choice. It is a fact of our membership. Our choice is to speak to others about the gospel or not.

We are trying to motivate Christians everywhere with the love of Christ for the lost and to help them sense the urgency we must have to reach unbelievers everywhere, before it is too late for them.

Testimony bearing is the key to missionary work

But the question is a matter of the survival and the teaching. That's what our work comes down to. No matter where we key into it, it's the same work, just different pieces of ourselves doing it.

If you are saved, the work is only half done until you are employed to bring others to Christ.

I entered the diocesan seminary. I liked the Dominicans, and I had Dominican friends. But then I chose the Society of Jesus, which I knew well because the seminary was entrusted to the Jesuits. Three things in particular struck me about the Society: the missionary spirit, community and discipline.
