Only when Christian faith in God is lost do people feel compelled to make use of all means—even criminal—to force the victory of their cause.

The attempt to understand reality apart from that action of God in and upon reality means living in anabstraction; it means failing to live in reality and vacillating between the extremes of a servile attitude toward the status quo and a protest in principle against it. Only God's becoming human makes possible an action that is genuinely in accord with reality. The world remains world. But it only does so because God has taken care of it and declared it to be under God's rule.

And however crazy, or Christian, or unchristian things may be outside, this world, this beautiful world is quite indestructible.

Only when I forgo visible proof, do I believe in God.

The Reformation biblical faith in God had radically desacralized the world. Thus the ground was prepared in which rational and empirical science could blossom; and even though the natural scientists of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were believing Christians, the disappearance of faith in God left behind only a rationalized and mechanized world.

It hurts body and soul that no day passes without the name of God being doubted and blasphemed.

All we can do is to live in assurance and faith — you out there with the soldiers, and I in my cell. — I've just come across this in the Imitation of Christ: Custodi diligenter cellam tuam, et custodiet te ('Take good care of your cell, and it will take care of you'). — May God keep us in faith.

God still answers prayers, God still performs miracles. Heaven is real.

Some may not believe my account; they may think it was some kind of wish fulfillment during a point of severe trauma. I don't have to defend my experience. I know what happened to me. For those of us whose faith is in the reality of heaven, no amount of evidence is necessary.

I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live as if there isn't and to die to find out that there is.

The decision to grow always involves a choice between risk and comfort. This means that to be a follower of Jesus, you must renounce comfort as the ultimate value of your life.

Belief in God is an act of faith. But so is believing our existence is simply the result of chance.
