We see through a glass darkly because all we want is to be comfortable.

Christianity does not promise that you will have every question fully answered to your satisfaction before you die, but the answers it gives are consistently consistent.

God has disclosed himself in descriptive terms that give us enough information to be able to know who he is, and he has hidden enough of himself for us to learn the balance between faith and reason. No earthly relationship with an infinite, transcendent God can exist without maintaining these two aspects.

One of my favorite examples involves Dr. Peter Greenspan, a Jewish obstetrician-gynecologist who also teaches at a medical school. The more he read books by critics who were trying to attack the prophecies, the more he recognized the flaws in their arguments. Ironically, concluded Greenspan, "I think I actually came to faith in Y'shua [Jesus] by reading what detractors wrote."36

I often put it this way: God has put enough into this world to make faith in Him a most reasonable thing. But He has left enough out to make it impossible to live by sheer reason alone. Faith and reason must always work together in that plausible blend.

Perhaps living in that hope now will make us act less petty on this side of heaven.

There is a difference between belief and conviction. A belief can become something that you merely hold; a conviction is that which holds you.

He wants us to see what it means to live through the lens of the eternal.

But certainly, to turn to God when all your earthly needs are already met is to express in no certain terms that faith in God is to trust Him even when other supports are within reach.

Naturalism by its purpose engineers the displacement of the miracle and puts in its place explanations that defy reason. Those who smirk at His walking on water have forgotten the miracle He has already performed in the very composition of water. Think

We have no ideas, and they're pretty firm.

I don't,' she sobbed, bursting violently into tears. 'But the God I don't believe in is a good God, a just God, a merciful God. He's not the mean and stupid God you make Him out to be.
