It's very important to surround yourself with people you can learn from.

Convince them what a contradiction it is to be a Christian and yet to refuse to learn. For what is a Christian but a disciple of Christ, and how can he be his disciple if he refuses to be taught by him? He who refuses to be taught by his ministers refuses to be taught by Christ. He will not come down from heaven again to teach them by his own mouth, but he has appointed his ministers to keep school and to teach those under him.

Try to say that: "I don't know anything". We used to call it "tabula rasa" in Latin. Maybe you could think of yourself as an erased blackboard, ready to be written on. For by and large, what blocks spiritual teaching is the assumption that we already know, or that we don't need to know. We have to pray for the grace of beginner's mind. We need to say with the blind man, "I want to see".

Eric Hoffer, the street philosopher, put it this way: "In times of great change [which is always], learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped for a world that no longer exists.

attained. You will be, as Paul would say, pressing on and attaining that for which Jesus Christ laid hold of you. Which brings me to my next point—an avenue of ministry. What you have learned, God intends for you to share. I have a vision, and you, Beloved, are part of that vision. Our Lord's commission in Matthew 28 was that we make disciples of all men—that we teach them

Get around people who have something of value to share with you. Their impact will continue to have a significant effect on your life long after they have departed.

Being open to correction means making ourselves vulnerable, and many people are not willing to do that.

Nothing is better than reading and gaining more and more knowledge.

To learn is to receive, and then it is to give, and then it is to give again.

And one more thing: I seek the lessons God wants to teach me, and that means that I ask why.

He who teaches the Bible is never a scholar; he is always a student.
