The critical issue on the journey with God is not "Am I happy?" but "Am I free?

Let freedom reign. The sun never set on so glorious a human achievement.

But I'm afraid you have it backward. It is better to live on one's feet than die on one's knees. That is the way the saying goes.

People need freedom.

Indeed our survival and liberation depend upon our recognition of the truth when it is spoken and lived by the people. If we cannot recognize the truth, then it cannot liberate us from untruth. To know the truth is to appropriate it, for it is not mainly reflection and theory. Truth is divine action entering our lives and creating the human action of liberation.

If we cannot recognize the truth, then it cannot liberate us from untruth.

A man has a property in his opinions and the free communication of them. He has a property of peculiar value in his religious opinions, and in the profession and practice dictated by them. He has a property very dear to him in the safety and liberty of his person. He has an equal property in the free use of his faculties and free choice of the objects on which to employ them. In a word, as a man is said to have a right to his property, he may be equally said to have a property in his rights.

This young century will be liberty's century.

Man will be what he was born to be: free and independent.

Everyone asks for freedom for himself, The man free love, the businessman free trade, The writer and talker free speech and free press.

Against us are all timid men who prefer the calm of despotism to the boisterous sea of liberty We are likely to preserve the liberty we have obtained only by unremitting labors and perils.

I never knew a man who wished to be himself a slave. Consider if you know any good thing, that no man desires for himself.
