Worry is the antithesis of trust. You simply cannot do both. They are mutually exclusive.

Teach me to treat all that comes to me with peace of soul and with firm conviction that Your will governs all. In unforeseen events let me not forget that all are sent by You.

A few clear pronouncements on one side and a few honest questions on the other had, in a matter of minutes, shown me that life was not going to be as simple, ever again, as I had thought.

How we long to point to something - anything - and say This works! This is sure! But if it is something other than God Himself we are destined for disappointment.

If a duty is clear, the dangers surrounding it are irrelevant.

God makes the assignments, and he apportions the degree of difficulty in precise measurements.

The unwillingness on the part of men and women to acknowledge their helpless dependence is a violation of our "creatureliness." The unwillingness to be obedient is a violation of our humanity. Both are declarations of independence and, whether physical or moral, are essentially atheistic. In both, the answer to the call is no.

My portion. My cup. My lot is secure. My heart can be at peace. My Father is in charge. How simple!

Well that sounds pretty brave and strong, doesn't it? But listen to the last stanza, "But not of us this strength, O Lord, and not of us this constancy. Our trust is Thine eternal Word, Thy presence our security.

When we wonder how God will do a thing this may spring from spiritual lust: I must have an explanation! We demand an answer when we ought to pray for a deeper confidence in Him who is the Answer. A simple heart, full of love for God, will soon learn what to do. Questions will be quieted.

God is more interested in our response than He is in the tangible results.

Obedience is a foundational stepping-stone on the path of God's will.
