Every temptation is an opportunity of our getting nearer to God.

The first time the temptation comes, meet it in such a decided manner that it will never be repeated!

The moment you grasp God's promises by faith and say, I am the lost sheep that Jesus came to save, a new life will take possession of you, and you will receive strength to resist the tempter.

Through the indulgence of appetite and passion men would become incapable of appreciating the great truths of the plan of redemption. Yet Christ, true to the purpose for which he left heaven, would continue his interest in men, and still invite them to hide their weakness and deficiencies in him. As we grow detached from things, we come (with God's help) to master our desires, and we give the mastery over to God. Discipline and divine grace heal the intellect and the will of the effects of concupiscence. We can begin to see things clearly.

If I've already thought through a situation and have a response prepared ahead of time in the event temptation rears its ugly head, it is that much easier to resist.

Each of us at any time and space is doing the very best we can with what we have.
