The answer can only be that God has given Adam free will, and therefore Adam may do things that God Himself cannot anticipate in advance.

Our lives are fashioned by our choices. First we make our choices. Then our choices make us.

Life is not yours to take.

Always a choice, even in not choosing.

Choice is the strongest principle of growth.

We have come to a turning point in the road. If we turn to the right mayhap our children and our children's children will go that way; but if we turn to the left, generations yet unborn will curse our names for having been unfaithful to God and to His Word.

For in any given moment, regardless of circumstances, I can choose again. I can choose strength instead of weakness, and love instead of fear. I can choose to bless instead of blame, and to lean into the future rather than dragging with me the past.

Let the high God judge between us. Choose and eat. There is death in one and life in the other. I shall take what you leave. Let us see if there is justice upon the earth, or if we are ruled by chance.

At the present moment in world history nearly every nation must choose between alternative ways of life. The choice is too often not a free one.

Choose life,] that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. —DEUTERONOMY 30:20

You have a "turn" every time you have an opportunity to choose. But most of us only see a tiny fraction of the choices we have.
