Jesus is trying to draw out this principle: We are designed to work from a place of rest, not rest from work. He makes it quite clear that real rest is found in him being connected to his Father.

God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer.

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature--trees, flowers, grass--grows in silence see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence...we need silence to be able to touch souls.

God knows that we are incapable of carrying the burden of sovereign knowledge that he carries, so he lovingly protects us by telling us what we need to know: we are to rest in him and live as he has ordained, while he protects us from what would overwhelm us.

So instead of wasting time on that endless quest for life, you have been invited to enter into God's rest for the rest of your life. Rest in your identity as his child. Rest in his eternal love. Rest in his powerful grace. Rest in his constant presence and faithful provision. Rest in his patience and forgiveness. Rest.

Many people will get up today and in some way will ask creation to be their savior, that is, to give them what only God is able to give.

Loneliness can be conquered only by those who can bear solitude.

I am not at ease or quiet; I have no rest, for trouble has come.”
