I do believe there are things that we desire that are not in the cards. But more often than not, when people have a desire for a relationship and it's not happening, there are probably issues to be resolved and issues people could work on that would ultimately end in that desire being fulfilled.

Occasional setbacks are probably unavoidable - part of the struggle of living in a fallen world. Other setbacks are due to our own sin and failures, or circumstances outside our control.

If there is not the war, you don't get the great general; if there is not a great occasion, you don't get a great statesman; if Lincoln had lived in a time of peace, no one would have known his name.

Turn your wounds into wisdom.

There are moments when troubles enter our lives and we can do nothing to avoid them. But they are there for a reason. Only when we have overcome them will we understand why they were there.

Welcome the challenges. Look for the opportunities in every situation to learn and grow in wisdom.

Even the saddest things can become, once we have made peace with them, a source of wisdom and strength.
