God calls him a mighty man not because of Gideon's natural strength and courage, but because of what Gideon will be able to do in the power that God will give him.

Get on your feet or die.

The basic anxiety, the anxiety of a finite being about the threat of non-being, cannot be eliminated. It belongs to existence itself.

Reasoning as a limited cognitive function, detached from the personal center, never could create courage. One cannot remove anxiety by arguing it away.

The courage to be is rooted in the God who appears when God has disappeared in the anxiety of doubt. (190)

Only mediocrity is sure of itself, so take risks, and do what you really want to do.

Pitiful is the person who is afraid of taking risks. Perhaps this person will never be disappointed or disillusioned; perhaps she won't suffer the way people do when they have a dream to follow. But when the person looks back-she will hear her heart.

Everything tells me that I am about to make a wrong decision, but making mistakes is just part of life. What does the world want of me? Does it want me to take no risks, to go back to where I came from because I didn't have the courage to say "yes" to life?

Don't give in to your fears. If you do, you won't be able to talk to your heart.

Do I prefer to grow up and relate to life directly, or do I choose to live and die in fear?

Fear will always step in the moment we choose to let faith go.

Guilt brings condemnation and fear brings torment.
