Not a day goes by but what we have to deal with that ancient triple threat that Christians in the Middle Ages summarized under the headings of the world, the flesh and the devil:

Passion is the evil in adultery. If a man has no opportunity of living with another man's wife, but if it is obvious for some reason that he would like to do so, and would do so if he could, he is no less guilty than if he was caught in the act.

Sin wants you, but you must rule over it.

Remember, any day not surrendered to the Spirit of God will likely be lived in the flesh (Gal. 5:16—17).

No amount of determination will bring freedom. We're going to learn to be victorious by surrendering our lives completely to the Spirit of God, not by gritting our teeth and trying harder.

If we live by the Spirit, we must also follow the Spirit. We must not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:25—26

You see, a person full of the Holy Spirit cannot be full of self. Pride never accompanies power in the fully yielded life.

If we do not possess the Spirit of Christ, no matter how hard we attempt to "yield" to God's control, we will not experience that alien ability in our feelings and responses. We will be capable of "good works" but not "God works." Only a believer perceives the difference. Remember, God doesn't think, speak, or act like us.

We are not obligated to the flesh to live according to the flesh. Romans 8:12
