God hasn't called me to be successful. He's called me to be faithful.

Now the trumpet summons us again - not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need; not as a call to battle, though embattled we are; but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, 'rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation', a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease and war itself.

Do not be afraid of defeat. You are never so near to victory as when defeated in a good cause.

Patience and fortitude conquer all things.

No great thing is created suddenly, any more than a bunch of grapes or a fig. If you tell me that you desire a fig, I answer you that there must be time. Let it first blossom, then bear fruit, then ripen.

It is thy duty oftentimes to do what thou wouldst not; thy duty, too, to leave undone that thou wouldst do.

No personal consideration should stand in the way of performing a public duty.

Failure is not in losing, but in no longer believing that winning is worthwhile.
